Brera Collection
Gianni Brera was a personage really beloved in Italy. He was a writer ,a reviewer , a sport journalist , but he was most of all a great expert and
keen on soccer and he really charmed with his dialectic and his verve the TV watchers.
In the year 2002 ,the decennial of his death, Milan, the Town council who adopted him, dedicated him the civic arena, and Bosisio Parini ,
the Town council were he was born, dedicated him the main square. This is a proof that he lasted an indelible memory to all who had the opportunity to know him.
Gianni Brera is for us a V.I.P. as smoker too. He used to smoke the Toscani cigars and the pipe and never stopped smoking in public and in private.
As he liked to smoke the Toscani -ends he was looking for a pipe with the right shape and capacity of the stove to smoke the Toscani until the end and light
enoght to keep it with the teeth without having a “ Neanderthal jaw “ as he used to say of Bearzot , the national Italian soccer coach that used to smoke the pipe too.
Thank of this idea and the friendship of Gianni Brera with Enea Buzzi the CEO of Brebbia the “Brera” was born and was a great success despite it was a
quite small pipe in a time, the years ‘70, and the trend was for big and heavy hand-cut pipes.
We have not put Gianni Brera with the other “Great designers “ personages because he is not alive but you can admire his projects and his sketches , and his loved collection of pipes as we had the opportunity to enclose it in our Pipe Museum.
For a good chance the Varese district council decided to buy the full collection of the pipes of Gianni Brera from an auction organized by the cultural foundation of Bosisio Parini who received it as a present from the heirs . Afterwards they decided to give it in the custody of our Museum to increase its value and prestige as our Museum is a testimonial of the important ancient activities of Varese district.
LThe pipe- production was in between the two wars one of the main activities that gave job to a lot of employees .
