Mini competition

Historic pipe and a must in the brebbia hand-made production in the years 1968 and 1969.
The M.P.B. factory (acronym of Brebbia pipes handcraft) gained reputation and success on the international markets especially in North Europe, in the U.S. and in South Africa but sales were slow in Italy as at those time imported pipes and well established brands were hot.
The big chance to establish the brand came when the slow smoking contests started.
The first contest attracted hundreds of pipe-smokers and in Varese, a small town where there was the biggest concentration of pipe Italian manufacturers, they organized it in the basket–ball building, the biggest covered building downtown, to recover them all.
They organized local, regional Italian and international championships.
They also constituted the “Pipa club Italia” and in cooperation with other Italian and foreign clubs they registered championships and records.
The M.PB. set up in very short timea team of winners as at those time it was possible to smoke with any kind of pipe and the glamour for the sponsorcould be great.
Among the Brebbia team wemention Carlo Pavoni who was more times world winner and Franca Ferretti that still keeps the unbeaten female record of 2h. 41’ and 30”.
It was necessary to realize a special contest pipe able to keeplighted up easily, to eliminate the condensationand to filter the smoke.
“The Mini Competizione“ equipped of a double chamber was born. In between the years 1968 and 1969 the Brebbia team won almost everything that there was to win using thispipe.
It was a great success that suggest us to change the factory brand name from M.P.B. into Brebbia and to substitute the plain lozenge into profiled rhombus.
We remade the pipes using a rest of the original heads.
The production is limited to the availability of the raw heads.
